Start and submit activity attempts

Start, resume, submit, and track Student Activity Attempts for published activities in your Course Offering.

Last reviewed: 28 August 2026

Before you begin

Student Activity Attempts belong to your Academic Enrolment in a Course Offering. Your institution must enable Practical Learning, and you need an active Academic Enrolment. Attempts apply to published Activity Instances that are available to you (including Class Group targeting when set).

Evidence file uploads and formal grading are separate features and are not covered here.

Steps

  1. Open Institution Workspace and go to your Course Offering.
  2. Open the Activities section.
  3. Find a published Activity Instance you can access.
  4. Choose Start to begin a Student Activity Attempt.
  5. While the attempt is in progress, use Resume if you return later, Record launch if a provider launch marker is needed, and Submit when ready.
  6. If teaching staff return the attempt, choose Resume to continue, then submit again.
  7. Use Cancel attempt only if you need to abandon an in-progress attempt.

Status meanings

  • Not started — no attempt yet for this Activity Instance.
  • In progress — you have started and may submit.
  • Submitted — waiting for teaching staff review.
  • Returned — staff asked you to continue; resume and submit again.
  • Expired or Cancelled — the attempt is closed.
