Schedule activity instances

Schedule or publish Activity Instances for a Course Offering with availability, deadlines, and optional Class Group targeting.

Last reviewed: 28 August 2026

Before you begin

Activity Instances are the scheduled or published runs of an Activity Definition inside a Course Offering. Your institution must enable Practical Learning, and you need teaching authority on the offering (or institution administration access).

Create and activate an Activity Definition first. Students start Student Activity Attempts against published instances from the same Activities section.

Steps

  1. Open Institution Workspace and go to the Course Offering.
  2. Open the Activities section.
  3. Choose New Activity Instance.
  4. Select an active Activity Definition, enter a clear title, and optionally add a short description.
  5. Choose Draft, Scheduled, or Published.
  6. Set Available from and an optional Deadline.
  7. Optionally target one Class Group, or leave blank for the entire Course Offering.
  8. Optionally set a Journey placement order so later Learning Journeys can order this instance.
  9. Save the Activity Instance.
  10. From the Activities list, use Schedule, Publish, Close, Cancel, or Archive as the state of the work changes.

Student visibility

Students with an active Academic Enrolment see published Activity Instances that are already available. Instances targeted to a Class Group appear only for students enrolled in that Class Group.
