Manage people on a course offering
Use People to manage class groups, the teaching team, enrolments, and student invitations for a Course Offering.
Before you begin
- Open the Course Offering workspace for an offering you teach or administer.
- Exact People options depend on what your institution has enabled and your role.
Find People quickly
- Open the Course Offering workspace overview.
- Use Find a section and type people or invite, or open People in the sidebar.
Class groups
- Open People → Class groups.
- Choose Add class group when the offering still accepts new groups.
- Set a code, name, and optional capacity.
- Open a group later to review its details.
Class groups organise students within one offering (for example tutorial or lab streams).
Teaching team
- Open People → Teaching team.
- Choose Add assignment (administrators) or Add teaching assistant (lecturers on the course).
- Assign an eligible staff member, role, optional class group, and effective dates.
- For a Teaching assistant, choose which extra access to enable (materials, announcements, activities, labs, or grading). Baseline view of the course, roster, and progress is always included.
Institution roles identify who can be assigned. The Teaching Assignment is what grants authority on this offering. Lecturers can invite teaching assistants for their own courses; administrators manage the full teaching team.
Enrolments
- Open People → Enrolments.
- Use Search by name, email or student ID to find someone already on the roster.
- Use the status dropdown to show only students at a given stage (for example Active or Suspended), then choose Apply.
- Choose Manual enrolment when you need to enrol one student yourself.
Each row shows the student's name and email, student ID, status, class group, progress, when they were last active, and their enrolment date. The cards above the table summarise active, suspended, and not-started counts, average progress, and how many students are at risk.
Filter and sort the roster
- Use the filters to narrow by status, class group, cohort, source, progress (not started / in progress / complete), or students inactive over 7, 14, or 30 days.
- Choose Apply filters, or Clear to reset.
- Click the Student, Progress, Last active, or Enrolled column headings to sort; click again to reverse the order.
Act on several students at once
- Tick the checkboxes for the students you want (or the header checkbox to select the page).
- In the bar that appears, choose an action: Reactivate, Suspend, Withdraw, Move to class group, Send message, or Send reminder.
- Provide any required detail (a reason for suspend/withdraw, the target class group, or your message), then choose Apply.
Send message delivers an in-app notification and email to the selected students. Send reminder nudges students who have a pending enrolment or have never signed in.
For large cohorts, institution administrators may also use Academic → Imports → Bulk Students, or an institution SIS sync when those tools are enabled. See the bulk import and SIS help guides for those workflows.
Export the roster
- On People → Enrolments, apply any search or status filter you want the export to include.
- Choose Export CSV to download the filtered roster as a spreadsheet.
- Choose Export PDF to open a print-ready roster in a new tab, then use your browser's Save as PDF.
Exports respect the filters currently applied on screen, so you can share a focused list (for example only Active students) with colleagues.
Invite students
- Open People → Invite students (or type invite in Find a section).
- Create a shareable course link, join code, or QR code.
- Copy credentials immediately — the secure link is shown once.
Invitations create or request an Academic Enrolment. They do not replace institution membership invitations.
Teaching assistants awaiting acceptance
Pending teaching-assistant email invitations appear on People → Teaching team with status Pending. You can Resend email or Revoke from that row until the person accepts.
