Manage Domain Laboratories on a Course Offering
Browse registered Domain Laboratories, attach them to a Course Offering, configure availability, and enable them for students.
Before you begin
- Your institution must enable Domain Laboratories (platform feature and institution entitlement).
- You need offering administration rights or an active Teaching Assignment that can manage the Course Offering.
- At least one Domain Laboratory must be registered on the platform. Digital Forensics Laboratory and Research Laboratory appear under Available Laboratories for compatible offerings when registered.
Browse available laboratories
- Open Institution Workspace and open the Course Offering.
- Open Laboratories (Domain Laboratories) in the Course Offering Workspace.
- Review Available Laboratories. Each item shows name, version, capabilities, and whether it is already attached.
- If none appear, you will see: No laboratories are currently available for this offering. New laboratories will appear here when they are added to AppliedMode.
Attach a Domain Laboratory
- Under Available Laboratories, select Attach for a compatible laboratory.
- The attachment starts as Draft. Students cannot launch it yet.
- Open the attachment to review readiness, then select Configure.
Configure
- Open the attached laboratory, then select Configure.
- Set an optional display name and description for this offering.
- Choose whether the laboratory is visible to students when enabled.
- Optionally set availability dates and choose a Class Group (or leave as all students on the offering).
- Review Sessions and provider settings. For Digital Forensics, turn Sessions A–G on or off for this offering and set an examiner label if needed. For Research Laboratory, optionally require lecturer approval for topic (Studio 1), ethics (Studio 8), and final submit (Studio 11), and enable compiled report export.
- Select Save configuration. When required settings are complete, the attachment becomes Configured.
Review Research Laboratory progress
- On the Research Laboratory readiness page, select View student progress.
- Open a studio cell to preview work. Approve or request revision when a gated studio is waiting for review.
- When compiled export is enabled, download a combined PDF or DOCX for a learner from the progress matrix.
Enable, disable, archive
- Select Enable only when configuration is complete and students may use the laboratory.
- Select Disable to stop new launches while preserving existing student sessions and progress.
- Select Archive when the attachment should end. Archived laboratories cannot launch.
- Detach only when there is no student activity; otherwise archive instead.
Preview
- On the laboratory readiness page, select Preview student view.
- Review the laboratory entry, investigation context (when available), and the session catalogue students will work through.
- Preview does not create student progress, attempts, or submissions, and launch stays unavailable.
- Use Back to laboratory to return to readiness.
For students
Enrolled students launch enabled, available Domain Laboratories from Learning Experience under Laboratories. They stay inside AppliedMode Learning Experience for the same Course Offering.
What this does not include
Subject-specific workflows (for example Digital Forensics evidence handling, research protocols, or clinical simulations) are not part of the shared Domain Laboratory experience. Those belong to later Domain Laboratory packages.
