Launch simulation sessions and capture results

Launch offering-scoped simulation sessions from Course Offering Simulations and record sanitized result summaries on student attempts.

Last reviewed: 13 August 2026

Before you begin

  • Your institution must enable Practical Learning for this Course Offering.
  • Teaching staff need an active Teaching Assignment (or offering administration rights).
  • Students need an active Academic Enrolment on the Course Offering.
  • Simulation Activity Instances must use Activity Definition type Simulation and be published.

For teaching staff

  1. Open Institution Workspace and go to the Course Offering.
  2. Open the Simulations section.
  3. Confirm simulation Activity Instances are listed.
  4. After a student launches a session, use Record result to capture a short result summary (and optional score or outcome code).
  5. Use End, Mark failed, Cancel, or Expire to manage open sessions when needed.
  6. Review failure messages when a provider launch fails closed.

For students

  1. Open Institution Workspace and go to your Course Offering.
  2. Open the Simulations section.
  3. Choose a published simulation Activity Instance and select Launch simulation.
  4. If launch succeeds, your Simulation Session moves to Active (or you are redirected to the provider target).
  5. When a result is captured, the summary appears on the session and on your Student Activity Attempt.
  6. If no simulation provider is configured, launch fails closed with a clear error — contact your teaching staff.

What this does not include

Discipline-specific simulation environments and full evidence file uploads are not part of this generic Simulations workspace. Subject-specific labs and detailed submission evidence belong to later work.
