Invite students to a course offering

Share a course link, join code, or QR code so students can enrol in your offering.

Last reviewed: 28 August 2026

Before you begin

  • Your institution must enable offering invitations for your campus product.
  • Institution owners and admins can always invite when the policy is on.
  • Assigned lecturers can invite only when the institution policy allows it, and only for offerings where you have a Teaching Assignment.

Offering invitations do not replace institution membership invitations. They create or request an Academic Enrolment for that course offering.

Find Invite students quickly

  1. Open the course offering workspace.
  2. Use Find a section near the top of the offering (available on every workspace page) and type invite.
  3. Choose Invite students from the results.

You can also open People in the sidebar, then Invite students. On Invite students pages, open How to invite students for this guide in a new tab.

Invite students

  1. Open Invite students.
  2. Choose one-time or multi-use, set an expiry if needed, then create the invitation.
  3. On the invitation page, use the actions at the top (All invitations, Regenerate link, Revoke) when you need them.
  4. Use Copy link to copy the share course link, or Copy code to copy the join code.
  5. Use Send by email to email the join link straight to a student — type their address and choose Send.
  6. If a QR code is shown, use Download QR to save a PNG for printing or WhatsApp.

Share links at any time

  • The share link, join code, and QR code stay available on the invitation page — you no longer have to copy them the moment you create the invitation.
  • On the All invitations list, each active invitation has Copy link and Send so you can share without opening it first.
  • Invitations created before this feature show a note; choose Regenerate link once to enable copy, QR, and email sharing.

Manage invitations

  • Status, uses, expiry, mode, and approval settings appear in the Invitation details panel.
  • Regenerate link if credentials were shared too widely, or if the invitation has expired — this replaces the old link and code. An expired invitation also gets a new expiry date from the institution policy.
  • Revoke to stop further joins immediately.
  • All invitations returns you to the list for that offering.

Join outcomes

  • Students land on Join course, then sign in if needed.
  • If approval is required by policy, enrolment may stay pending until an administrator activates it.
  • Already enrolled students get a clear success message without creating a duplicate enrolment.

Let brand-new students create an account

Students who do not yet have an account can register straight from the invitation and join in one step — but only when your invitation policy allows it.

  1. Open your institution's offering invitation policy settings.
  2. Turn on automatic student membership (and, if needed, allow joining without an existing membership).
  3. Save. New students will then see Create an account to join on the invitation link and join-code pages; existing students still choose Sign in.

If automatic student membership is off, only people who already have an account at your institution can join — the invitation shows Sign in to join only.

When a student creates an account from your join link, AppliedMode sends them a welcome email confirming the account and course. That email does not include their password.
