Create a course offering as a lecturer

When granted permission on a course definition, create a scheduled offering from My Teaching and become Lead lecturer automatically.

Last reviewed: 28 August 2026

Before you begin

  • An institution owner or administrator must grant you offering-create permission on a specific course definition.
  • The course definition must be active.
  • You need an open academic period to attach the offering to.
  • Opening and activating the offering for learner enrolment stays with administrators.

Steps

  1. Sign in and open My Teaching.
  2. Choose New course offering.
  3. Step 1 — Course identity: pick the granted course definition, set the offering code, and confirm the slug (filled automatically from the code).
  4. Step 2 — Academic context: choose the academic period, programme, cohort, campus, and delivery mode.
  5. Step 3 — Schedule: set start/end dates and capacity, then choose Create scheduled offering.

You are assigned as Lead lecturer. The offering is created in scheduled status so you can prepare materials and assessments. Ask an administrator to open and activate it when learners should enrol. When teaching finishes, you can complete and later archive the offering from the workspace; it stays listed under My Teaching.

If you cannot create an offering

  • Confirm an administrator granted you permission on the course definition (Academic → Course definitions → the course → Lecturer offering-create grants).
  • Confirm the course definition is active.
  • Confirm you are signed in to the correct institution.
  • If New course offering is missing on My Teaching, you do not have an active grant yet.
