Collect Course Feedback from students

Build a Course Feedback form for a course offering, open it to students, and read anonymous, aggregated results.

Before you begin

  • Course Feedback must be available for your institution.
  • You need a Teaching Assignment as Lead Instructor or Instructor on the offering — Teaching Assistants and Graders cannot manage feedback forms.
  • Course Feedback forms are per Course Offering, so each intake or group runs its own independent form(s).

Build a feedback form

  1. Open the Course Offering workspace.
  2. Open Course Feedback.
  3. Choose New feedback form.
  4. Enter a Title and an optional Introduction shown to students.
  5. AppliedMode Core Feedback v1 is included automatically — 10 locked questions covering content, lecturer delivery, practical labs/studios, assessment, and overall satisfaction. These cannot be removed or reworded.
  6. Under Optional questions, you can add traditional lecturer-evaluation items (pace, availability, workload, and similar) when you want a longer survey.
  7. Optionally add up to two of Your own questions, and choose an answer type (rating, yes/no, or open text) for each.
  8. Choose Save draft. You can keep editing the form while it stays a draft.

Open the form to students

  1. From Course Feedback, open the form you want to run.
  2. Choose Open to students and confirm.
  3. Students on the offering are notified immediately — an announcement is posted, and they receive an in-app notification and email inviting them to respond.
  4. The question set is locked once a form is open, so build it carefully before opening.

Read the results

  • Open a form from the Course Feedback list to see its results at any time, even while it is still open.
  • You will see the number of responses, the response rate against enrolled students, and per-question results: average rating and rating distribution for rating questions, yes/no counts for yes/no questions, and a list of open-text comments.
  • Responses are always anonymous — no student name, enrolment, or identifying detail is ever shown here.

Close the form

  • Choose Close form when you have enough responses or the feedback window should end.
  • Once closed, students can no longer respond, but you can still review the results at any time.

Tips

  • Run a short form early in the term and a longer one at the end to compare how the course is landing.
  • The core 10 are required on every form so AppliedMode can compare results across courses and institutions, including whether labs actually helped students apply what they learned.
  • Keep custom questions specific and actionable — optional traditional items (pace, availability, workload) are already in the bank if you need them.
